| I just got back from Indianapolis after seeing the White Stripes concert there tuesday night. I've been to lots of concerts, but this was definitely my favourite and the most incredibly awesome. I had tickets for the July show, but it was postponed when Jack fractured his finger(in three places)

I stood waiting in the cold and rain outside Murat Center for an hour before the doors opened, but it was worth it. I got in line at 6:00 and was rather close to the beginning of the line, by 6:45, the que was wrapped around the block. The radio station there was giving away free match books. People around me in line began lighting the matches as a source of entertainment, light, and most of all, heat. The pyromaniac that I am enjoyed this very much. Ticketmaster.com said the venue only prohibited audio/video recorders, but when we got there we found out cameras weren't allowed either.
Curse ticketmaster.
At 7:00 pm they opened the doors and we went inside, where we were frisked by security. Up the stairs, we found the massive void that is the Egyptian Room. After buying pins, stickers and a t-shirt, I rushed towards the stage for a spot, because in the world of general admission, its first come, first serve. I found a space about ten feet from the stage. Little Lulu and Betty Boop cartoons were being projected onto the screen behind the stage until 8:00, when the lights dimmed and the projection changed to opening act's logo. Whirlwind Heat. Three guys: drums, bass, and vocals.
When Whirlwind Heat had finished their set, the lights came back on, and much to the audiences dismay, so did Betty Boop. By the fourth one, people were booing. One girl next to me started yelling "NOoooooo! I hate Betty Boop! Make it stop! MAKE IT STOP!". Then her head exploded.(not really, but it would have been entertaining). As the fifth or so cartoon began, there were cries of "dammit!","not another one!" and even louder booing. Then suddenly the lights dimmed, and the crowd began cheering and threw themselves towards the stage. I was suddenly less than 5 feet from the stage.
Then the stage lights came on as Jack and Meg walked out onto the stage.
Jack's hair is nearly to his shoulders now, and he's shaved that moustache he had in the "Hardest Button to Button" music video (thank god). He wore all black except for his red boots and white belt. Meg wore a white shirt, red pants, and a red & white striped belt. Her finger nails were painted red and she was barefoot.
They opened the show with "Black Math", which totally kicks ass live. I can't remember the order of all the other songs, and I'm not going list them anyways, so it all works out. Meg stepped up to the mic, amidst much applause and cheering, to sing "In the Cold, Cold Night. Jack sang (and played on keyboard) a bit of "Mr. Cellophane" from 'Chicago'. They played the Son House songs "Death Letter" and "I Just Don't Know What To Do With Myself". The turned on the strobe light during the guitar solos in "Seven Nation Army". They played "Hotel Yorba","Girl, You Have No Faith In Medicine", "Hardest Button to Button", "Sugar Never Tasted So Good"and "You're Pretty Good Looking(For A Girl)". "Astro" was really fun to dance to (if your idea of dancing is jumping up and down because you have to, because the crowd is so packed in around you, when they move, you move).
It was all fun and games until the ceiling caved in and everyone died. ok, so it wasn't the whole ceiling and not everybody died, some were motally wounded. ok, so it was just a small piece of the decorative tile (that hit the chandelier on its way down) and busted into smaller pieces before raining to the floor. And no one was injured. But, I still had the time of my life.
We stayed in a hotel on the south side of Indianapolis. We began the nearly 6 hour drive back home after breakfest. We stopped at the MediaPlay (in Nashville) on the way home. I bought an Invder Zim poster.

oh yeah, and the Stones River Mall HotTopic opens today. |
